Self-hosting
Run Seras on a computer at home. Docker is the usual way. Building from source works too.
Docker
ffmpeg is already in the image.
docker compose up -d
To include a library, add it in Library → Manage after it starts. Paths are inside the container:
docker run -d --name seras -p 4545:4545 \
-v seras-config:/config -v /path/to/media:/media:ro seras
Open https://localhost:4545, or https://<LAN_IP>:4545 from another device. Download /api/tls/ca.crt so the browser trusts the local certificate. The first visit on that machine creates the admin. Everyone else needs the six-digit code printed in docker logs seras.
From source
You need Rust and ffplay from a normal ffmpeg package. Use a release build, or poster decode crawls.
cargo run --release
Copy config.toml.example to ~/.config/seras/config.toml if you need to change ports or libraries.
Where it writes
| Path | Contents |
|---|---|
~/.config/seras/config.toml | config (container: /config/.config/seras/) |
~/.config/seras/seras.db | history, favorites, progress, users |
~/.cache/seras/images/ | poster cache |
$XDG_STATE_HOME/seras/ | log, transcode sessions |
